Regular physical expression through exercise is very important for persons with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Current research shows that regular exercise slows the progression of Alzheimer’s. Our exercise programs are simple, low impact and entertaining. We may even dance to favorite melodies.
We provide experiences that celebrate the joy and pleasure that can come from food. Food not only provides nutrition and hydration but also a time for socialization and an opportunity to reminisce about favorite foods and recipes. Food is an excellent way to stimulate the senses.
We all have a certain degree of creativity and that is a quality of life to be celebrated. Current research shows that persons with Alzheimer’s and related dementias often experience a spike in creativity. We want to celebrate that and encourage imagination involving artistic expression, poetry and music.
We believe that persons, even those with Alzheimer’s and related dementias, never stop learning. Individuals who are profoundly forgetful continue to enjoy learning. Our life enrichment activities offer the opportunities for learning and value this as an endeavor to be valued and celebrated.
Spirituality means different things to different people. For some it is a connection with God or a higher being. For others, it is an experience of awe, meditation, or mental discipline. At Friendly Horizons, we offer experiences that enable each person to develop inner peace through their own personal spiritual journey.
